What is your Why?
Why do you do what you do?
Why are you consuming the food you do?
What are your thoughts, your actions, your lifestyle choices saying about you?
Are they supporting your why, your vision, your passion?
My Why is simple! FREEDOM
FREEDOM to live life fully on my terms in all areas. To be healthy in body, mind and soul. To create and enrich. To serve. To be aware and mindful. To be joyous daily
There is a saying that goes: “I will forgive but never forget!” For years, I have used that saying as my motto, fooling myself into believing that I have forgiven as I embarked on my spiritual journey. My journey into breaking the shackles of abuse from the past.
But that forgiveness, I came to realize, was only superficial. There was still a lot of anger behind the … “never forget”. I know this to be true, as I have been struggling with a lot of liver issues. For those that believe in the power of emotions and the emotional body, you will know that each organ is connected to an emotion. The liver is the seat of anger. HUGE eye opener and life shift, when I was ready to receive that message, once again!
So forgiveness is not only forgiving others for the “perceived” wrong done unto you, but also about forgiving yourself! That is a BIGGIE!!!! I say perceived, because truly understanding someone else’s actions is not our job, neither is casting judgments around. There is always more than meets the eye! Our purpose/job is to learn and grow from the “never forget” . To harness compassion and empathy. To take what we have learned, together with love and kindness, and “Do unto others as we want done unto us”
A lot can still be said about forgiveness, but this quote, for me, sums it all up….
“FORGIVENESS IS THE FRAGRANCE THE VIOLET SHEDS ON THE HEEL THAT HAS CRUSHED IT”
I am responsible for my life!
The world/life/someone else does not owe me anything! It is not indebted to me, for what i perceive to be an unjust past. It is so easy to play victim. To cry “Oh woe be me” . To wait for the winds of change to blow the clouds away to bring the sun, just to come up with another excuse why your life sucks in sunshine.
By taking responsibility, you are owning your life! You are in control! You have the power! You become the victor. You create the life of your dreams.
Don’t opt for becoming a puppet. Be the puppeteer! Dance to the rhythm of life!
“RESPONSIBILITY IS ACCEPTING THAT YOU ARE THE CAUSE AND THE SOLUTION OF THE MATTER”
First and foremost, it starts with you! Look at your believes. Do they serve you, or are they getting you nowhere fast?
Question everything and find out what rings true for you! No two people are the same, so following what one person/guru/religion/lifestyle dictates, might not be 100% what will be true for you. It is perfectly fine to not be labelled as such. For instance, if we look at dietary trends. Are you Vegan, Paleo, Low Carb, Banting, Vegetarian, Pescatarian and a whole lot more?
Why not rather practice and live as a living being, a human being with a conscious. Education starts with awareness. Awareness about what impact your daily habits have on you? Awareness about how those habits impacts on the community, close and across the globe and what far reaching impacts those have on our Universe?
And that goes for every aspect of your life – your thoughts, your spirituality, your ethics, your integrity, your health.
Education of others, start with how you live your life! Lead and Educate by example.
“LIVE AS IF YOU WERE TO DIE TOMORROW. LEARN AS IF YOU WERE TO LIVE FOREVER.”
I empower myself through movement, through breathing, through awareness, through feeding my body and soul with wholeness.
Movement is not all about being a racing snake, chasing podiums and slots to World Championships. Although I will admit, Ironman race day, giving it your all, no matter what the day dishes out, brings a certain inner light to my soul and joy to my body. It is a huge empower day for me! Movement is also the connection between your body and soul, connected by your breath. The awareness of the movement of the energy flow through your body.
Movement is about being still. By being present and being conscious of how life moves around and through you. One thing I have become very aware of during #Lockdown2020 is how nature is flourishing – the stillness, the variety, the beauty – it seems to be amplified! As if with the reduction in all kinds of human pollution, nature is coming up with a whole new symphony of gratitude for having a break from our destructive ways.
Harness empowering thoughts and actions. Use your skills, your abilities to empower others, to serve others, to give back.
To empower does not mean to steamroller and dictate. To empower means to uplift someone else through courage and kindness.
“LEADERS BECOME GREAT NOT BY THEIR POWER, BUT BY THEIR ABILITY TO EMPOWER OTHERS”
In simple terms: “Discipline = Freedom” – Jocko Willink – Navy Seal
Keep yourself accountable and keep to your To-Do list daily. Not only in what you have to do on the outside, like logging training on Strava or posting “look at me” pics on Social Media, or your boring 8-5 but even more importantly, your inner work. Work not being the right word, I think, as for most of us, the word work – means something we drag ass to do as it is not a joyous, pleasurable thing at all.
The Inner Work I refer to is the things that sets your soul on fire, that grows you to become the best version of yourself.
Discipline is doing the right thing in private. Having the integrity to do what you said you will, without someone else bearing witness. Discipline is not making excuses.
Discipline teaches you to embrace and do hard things, and that in turn will give you the freedom to living a life of magic. A life where a lot of what you feared or had to come up with excuses for, falls away. Discipline simplifies your life.
Discipline pushes your through your comfort zone. Freedom is gained on the other side of your comfort zone.
“DISCIPLINE IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WHAT YOU WANT NOW AND WHAT YOU WANT MOST”
Be authentic! Like the saying goes…. Everyone else is already taken, so be you!
Be the best you, you can possibly be. The world needs the you, that you are. The you, you were born to be. We all have special gifts and a reason why we are here. Your life is worthwhile!
As we have come to learn during this Pandemic, people like Petrol attendants, cashiers , nurses and so many more, are our lifesavers so to speak. Do not ever for one moment think, that your life is less or more significant than that of someone else.!!!!
You have unique abilities and capabilities that the world needs! In fact, the world depends on you to be fully you. I know it is not always easy, right? I am mean, did you see how Mrs Jones seems to effortlessly raise money and here I am, not even able to raise someone’s hand to help volunteering…Stop! Do some inner reflection. What is the real reason behind your actions. Maybe it is the ego wanting attention or maybe that was just not your purpose. Or you need to up skill and educate yourself on the how to!
The message though is, do not compare yourself to others and criticize yourself with what you may think is shortcomings, or an elevation of your true self cause you have all the answers. Stay humble!
” IT IS BETTER TO FAIL AT ORIGINALITY THAN TO SUCCEED IN IMITATION”
Be present in every moment.
Mindfulness for me is being conscious of how I live life – in all its aspects. It is being aware. It is being conscious. It is being mindful of how I speak and what I say. It is how I feed my body. It is about gratitude and giving thanks for the blessing of being alive. It is about how I nourish my soul.
It is in living a simple life, filled with moments, experiences and adventures instead of material items. It is being still and connecting to the God-essence that is inside of me, inside of you.
It is about embracing the splash of rain on my face, the dust of the trail on my legs, the sound of angel choir in my ears when I get to see my kids, the slobbery kisses of Peanut, the canine kid, the warm enfolding aroma of being in the arms of Daniel….
I stumble and I fall daily – but my intention daily remains the same. To practice mindfulness and to soak in every wondrous breath I take, knowing that breath is God’s kiss of life and I was created in His image.
“WHERE-EVER YOU ARE, BE THERE FULLY”
Once you know your WHY, You can live life with pure intention…..
